چکیده

Current rotorcraft gas turbine engines typically use titanium alloys and steel for the compressor section single-crystal nickel superalloys hot-section stator vanes rotor blades. However, these material selections are rapidly changing due to increased requirements of power-density efficiency. Future U.S. Army will be using ceramic matrix composites many high temperature engine components their low density improved durability in environments. The industry is also actively developing adaptive concept technologies production assembly modular with integrated sensing. In order monitor extended seamless operation reliability, it essential have intelligent embedded sensing health critical engines. Under this Foreign Technology Assessment Support (FTAS) program funded research project, fiber-optic sensors from U.K.-based company, Epsilon Optics Ltd (Fordingbridge, UK)., were experimentally evaluated measure responses on typical turbomachinery component coupons. foreign technology sensor assessed a thermomechanical fatigue tester built-in furnace conduct thermal cycling experiments. experimental results obtained performance fiber Bragg reported paper. This technology, upon maturation higher TRL (technology readiness level), can greatly reduce lifecycle cost future

A 600 Degrees C Wireless Multimorph-Based Capacitive MEMS Temperature Sensor for Component Health Monitoring

This paper presents the design and fabrication of a new packaged MEMS capacitive temperature sensor for engine component health-monitoring applications and measurement results above 500-600°C. The multimorphs employed are thermal-SiO2/LPCVD-Si3N4/sputtered-Au beams designed for deflection at these temperatures. The mean initial capacitance of the sensors is 6.441 pF; with a standard deviation o...

An Embedded Sensor For Monitoring File Integrity

This paper describes a method of monitoring le integrity (changes in le contents) using a collection of embedded sensors within the kernel. An embedded sensor is a small piece of code designed to monitor a speci c condition and report to a central logging facility. In our case, we have built several such sensors into the 4.4 BSD kernel (OpenBSD V2.7) to monitor for changes in le contents. The s...

Embedded Prognostics Health Monitoring

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has conducted R&D for the US Army on prognostics health monitoring (PHM). The main focus of the work was to demonstrate the feasibility of developing an onboard PHM system for the gas turbine engine used on the M1 Abrams tank. Research was performed on methods for real time, onboard prognostics/engine life expectancy forecasting, and a prototype ...
